Introduction: Bacteremia is a severe and frequent disease that requires early therapeutic care. This emergency is not well suited for the diagnostic method using blood culture sampling. The aim of our study is to identify certain clinical parameters for the consideration of a diagnosis of Bacteremia starting at the patient's bedside.
Material and method: It is retrospective and observational study conducted between January and December 2023. 696 patients were included in total, and 348 of them were divided into groups according to their bacteraemia status. The primary objective is the identification of clinical parameters that would predict Bacteremia. The secondary objectives are the identification of the type of bacteria involved, the associated mortality, and the impact of medical devices on the risk of Bacteremia.
Results: 5 parameters were associated with an increased risk of Bacteremia including the age, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and the presence of a medical device.
Discussion: The clinical diversity which is related to the presence of Bacteremia makes diagnosis complex, but the consistent results of certain parameters raise the hope for the development of a predictive score for Bacteremia.
Keywords : Bacteremia, ermergency medecine, blood culture.
