We had art-therapy sessions with two teenagers placed in institutional care in Bosgenet in the French department of La Creuse (23), and we sought to determine the impact of art-therapy on emotion regulation and ability to mentalize in Children having been abused. We grounded our work, on the one hand, on a systemic approach of abuse and the institutional care, and, on the other hand, concerning the sessions themselves, on mentalization-based therapy (MBT). L and R are the two teenagers we presented an evaluation of in this study. One worked from singing and the arts of movement, the other one, from theatre. This study tend to prove that the ability to mentalize is worth examining in the case of abused children, and the tools of the mentalization-based therapy, worth adapting to art-therapy. Nevertheless, our sample is too small, and our trial too short to be assertive in any way. It might be interesting to extend the experiment to other children or adults having been abused, in order to secure and specify our tools.
Keywords : abuse, arts of movement, art-therapy, attachment theory, emotion regulation, institutional care, MBT, mentalization, music, theatre.
